Two faculty members and a recent graduate shared their expertise at the Eastern Sociological Society (ESS) Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. The theme of this year’s meeting was “Transformation & Repair: Worldmaking in Contexts of Struggle and Constraint."

Jess Buttery, assistant professor of instruction in theatre and production manager,  chaired and presented a session titled “Business of Making Art: Careers in Theater Management” at the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) Annual Conference in Long Beach, Calif., March 17-22.

A chapter co-authored by Professor of Economics Emily Conover appears in The Handbook of Social Protection: Evidence and New Directions for Low- and Middle-Income Countries, an open access edited volume recently published by MIT Press.

Lisa Trivedi, the Christian A. Johnson Professor of Excellence in Teaching Professor of History, is the co-author of a three year, $500,000 grant from the Henry Luce Foundation to ASIANetwork, a scholarly society that serves 150 liberal arts colleges with Asian Studies programs, including Hamilton.

Congratulations to 10 Hamilton faculty members who were approved for tenure at the March meeting of the Board of Trustees. They include Nadya Bair (art history), Charlotte Botha (music), Clark Bowman (mathematics and statistics), Anna Huff (digital arts), Amy Koenig (classics), Heather Kropp (environmental studies), Jack Martinez Arias (Hispanic studies), Arathi Menon (art history), Mahala Stewart (sociology), and Michael Welsh (chemistry).

An essay titled “Of Cocks and Commerce: Sex, Money, and Value in Carletti,” by Associate Professor of History Mackenzie Cooley, was recently reviewed in the Corriere Fiorentino, a supplement to Corriere della Sera, Italy’s leading national newspaper.

Assistant Professor of Theatre Emily K. Harrison recently presented a paper titled “Playing JonBenét” at the 2026 Mid America Theatre Conference, held in Pittsburgh.

Alan Cafruny, the Henry Platt Bristol Chair of International Affairs and Professor of Government, recently presented at King’s College London and at the University of East London.

Professor of East Asian Languages and Literatures Zhuoyi Wang recently published an article in Caesura: Journal of Philological & Humanistic Studies (Volume 12, Issue 2, 2025), titled “Raunchy and (Un)Rooted Queering Transnational Asian American Cinema in Joy Ride (2023).”

Jennifer Borton, the Carolyn and David M. Ellis ’38 Distinguished Teaching Professor of Psychology, recently presented three posters at the annual conference of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) in Chicago.
