Jennifer Borton, the Carolyn and David M. Ellis ’38 Distinguished Teaching Professor of Psychology, recently presented three posters at the annual conference of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) in Chicago.
Borton and collaborator Erika Koch (St. Francis Xavier University, Nova Scotia) presented “Can practicing self-compassion reduce the sting of social exclusion? A daily diary study.” The project was conducted with the assistance of four summer research students in 2024, and a variety of research assistants plus two thesis students last year.
She also presented “Self-esteem, but not self-compassion, is associated with the Better-Than-Average Effect,” work conducted with Anais Geronimo ’25 and Susan Nie ’26 as part of a spring 2025 quarter-credit Collaborative Research course.
In addition, Borton presented “Self-compassion encourages willingness to apologize” with three of her 2025 summer research students – Ross Eagle ’26, Aaliyah Gauthney ’26, and Ahaana Mahapatra ’27.
