Two faculty members and a recent graduate shared their expertise at the Eastern Sociological Society (ESS) Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. The theme of this year’s meeting was “Transformation & Repair: Worldmaking in Contexts of Struggle and Constraint."

Russell Marcus, the Christian A. Johnson Excellence in Teaching Professor of Philosophy, recently gave several presentations at the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University (CSB/SJU) in St. Cloud, Minn., and at Harper College in Chicago.

Alan Cafruny, the Henry Platt Bristol Chair of International Affairs and Professor of Government, recently presented at King’s College London and at the University of East London.

Jennifer Borton, the Carolyn and David M. Ellis ’38 Distinguished Teaching Professor of Psychology, recently presented three posters at the annual conference of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) in Chicago.

Associate Professor of Classics Jesse Weiner is on sabbatical this academic year and recently spent time in France, Switzerland, and Rome.

Derek Jones, the Irma M. and Robert D. Morris Professor of Economics emeritus, participated in two conferences earlier this year and published two papers.

Associate Professor of Geosciences and co-director of the Geoarchaeology program Catherine Beck co-authored a paper published recently in the journal Trends and Ecology and Evolution. She also co-led a workshop on planning and implementing continental scientific drilling projects at the 30th Colloquium of African Geology in Nairobi.

Associate Professor of Government Alexsia Chan recently discussed the research that went into her book Beyond Coercion: The Politics of Inequality in China, in a talk sponsored by the Asian Studies Program and the Political Science Department at Clark University.

Assistant Professor of Art History Nadya Bair recently presented “Photography Exhibitions and the Magnum Brand” at the Image Centre at Toronto Metropolitan University.
