Russell Marcus, the Christian A. Johnson Excellence in Teaching Professor of Philosophy, recently gave several presentations at the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University (CSB/SJU) in St. Cloud, Minn., and at Harper College in Chicago.

Russell Marcus, the Christian A. Johnson Professor of Teaching Excellence, recently presented his new research project, Why Teach Philosophy, at a conference at New Mexico State University organized by professor Mark Walker. The project examines philosophy teachers’ goals through interviews and workshops. In a session titled “Learning Moments,” Marcus invited participants to connect abstract learning goals to specific classroom activities, illustrating eight core philosophical tasks with examples from his own courses.

A. Todd Franklin, the Eugene M. Tobin Distinguished Professor of Philosophy and Africana Studies, was one of a select group of global scholars invited to participate in a recent workshop focusing on the ideas and implications of Philosophy Born of Struggle.

In its second meeting of the 2025-26 academic year, the Hamilton Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa elected 16 additional members of the Class of 2026.

As the fall 2025 semester came to a close, a number of Hamilton students kept busy presenting research at conferences and collaborating with faculty on professional papers that were published.

Marianne Janack, the John Stewart Kennedy Professor of Philosophy, and her co-editor, Elin Danielsen Huckerby of the University of Bergen, Norway, have published a collection of essays titled Solidarity in Contingency: Rorty's Constructive Project.
