Six students were awarded prizes in three categories in the annual Public Speaking Competition on Saturday, March 3, in the Chapel. The finalists were chosen after an open preliminary round held in February. Speakers’ presentations were either persuasive or informative in nature, and in one category, students addressed an assigned topic.

In Margarita Cabrera’s exhibit “Space in Between” at the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art, viewers can catch a colorful glimpse of the Southwestern desert through the eyes of immigrants. The exhibit features fabric cacti sculptures decorated with vibrant stitching and symbolic images from the experiences of Latin American immigrants who came to the United States.

Two Hamilton faculty members were approved for tenure by the College’s Board of Trustees during the March meeting. The board granted tenure to Abhishek Amar and Quincy Newell, both of the Religious Studies department. Both appointments are effective immediately.

Assistant Professor of Anthropology Colin Quinn was recently awarded a Wenner-Gren Engaged Anthropology Grant to support community outreach efforts in Romania. This project, "Archaeology as Advocacy: Celebrating Cultural Heritage and Promoting Sustainability in Transylvanian Mining Communities," explores how cultural heritage outreach can influence awareness and ultimately public policy about sustainable development.
