Multicultural Alumni Relations Committee

Members of MARC maintain meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships with each other, current students, faculty, and staff by:
- Connecting those within the extended Hamilton community who identify with and/or value multiculturalism.
- Serving as a resource to students, alumni, faculty, and staff who identify as persons of color.
- Growing meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships within the Hamilton community.
- Inspiring the greater Hamilton community to value multiculturalism, continue fostering a welcoming and inclusive community, and further engage with each other.
Enlace
Hamilton Enlace is a MARC program created by and for Hamilton alumni and students who identify as people of color. Enlace’s goals are to create a network around shared identity and experiences, build relationships that are personally and professionally beneficial, and provide support that begins when students arrive on the Hill and continues through their journey as Hamilton alumni.
Leadership
Kimblie Silva ’04
MARC Chair
Kimblie usually avoids homework at all costs, so in the true Hamiltonian spirit, she left her bio until the last minute and then got an extension. Kimblie proudly represents Hamilton not because of her actual experience as a student, but because of the values her favorite staff members modeled in both the classroom and in their real lives off campus. She accepted this chair position not only because she loves supporting fellow Caribbeans, like Alex Hamilton, but also because of the great women of Kirkland and the faculty — Professor Gold, Professor Haley, Professor Sanchez-Casal, and of course the incredible Hamilton women graduates, especially our La Vanguardia leader extraordinaire Jazmin '02.
Robin Gane-McCalla ’07
MARC Vice Chair
Robin first came to Clinton as a faculty kid. His mother, Professor of English Gillian Gane, came to Hamilton in 1999 and taught classes that addressed pedagogical issues related to race, class, and gender. Her brilliant legacy is continued in her son's work, maybe unintentionally. These days you'll find Robin using his Mathematics and Computer Science degree analyzing data regarding the effectiveness of curricula, and if you surf the net you'll find his blog regarding his Spectator article about whether Alex Hamilton was black.
Jazmín Gatto de Torres ’02
MARC Chair Emerita; Enlace Alumni Co-Coordinator
Jazmín arrived at Hamilton in 1998 and quickly became an active campus leader, performing in Undesirable Elements, aiding students with disabilities, organizing Senior Week, chairing Trust Treat, and serving in groups including Newman Council, Doers and Thinkers, Black and Latin Student Union, and as President of La Vanguardia, and supported Admissions through the Multicultural Recruitment Committee. As an alumna, she has volunteered as an Admissions interviewer, chaired the Alumni Council Regional Committee and MARC, co-founded Enlace, and co-chaired the Richmond Region with her husband, Vidal Torres Jr. ’00. Beyond Hamilton, she is active in her children’s schools, the Latin Ballet of Virginia, and St. Michael’s Catholic Church. A former Montessori teacher, she continues to lead and serve across her community.
