Climate Displacement without Borders

Course Number: SOC 344
Title: Climate Displacement without Borders
Day & Time: F 01:00PM 04:00PM
Instructor: Selzer J
Credit: 1.00
Course Description:

Climate displacement is often an international endeavor. While some individuals adapt to climatic shifts by migrating abroad, others cross borders to find employment where disaster has struck. Again others are hoping for an overhaul of the international refugee system to help preserve their culture and traditions even as they are dispelled from their land. This course takes the exacerbation of old, and the creation of new forms of climate-induced inequality as a starting point to raise questions about the future: What could migration policies organized around the principle of climate justice look like? Where might the threat of displacement lay the foundation for new forms of solidarity? And how can we envision a society that transcends the boundaries of any particular species?
