Amplify Your Voice
Whether you’re studying neuroscience, history, computer science, economics, or art, you will practice expressing your ideas clearly and thoughtfully. Writing, speaking, presenting, collaborating, and adapting your message for different audiences will become second nature through practice.
A world shaped by technology and AI requires far more than technical skills. Throughout courses across our curriculum, you’ll practice the human skills technology can’t replace — listening closely, asking better questions, understanding other perspectives, and communicating with empathy and clarity. At the same time, you will explore how digital tools influence the ways we create, communicate, analyze information, and solve problems.
Writing
Although Hamilton’s open curriculum has no “distribution requirements,” students must select three courses from across the curriculum designated as writing-intensive. That’s how important we believe it is for you to learn to write in a clear, organized, and effective way.
Speaking
Hamilton is one of a handful of top liberal arts colleges with a dedicated Oral Communication Center — because knowing how to express yourself clearly and persuasively matters in every field. You’ll develop confidence presenting ideas, leading discussions, and adapting your message for any audience. And if you want to put your skills to the test, our annual Public Speaking Competition awards $18,000+ in prize money to students who bring their best.
Digital Fluency
From using digital media to communicate and collaborate to exploring the potential uses of data, analytics, and computer modeling, we’ll help you navigate the ethical and societal implications of living in an online world.
Arts
The creation of art at Hamilton is not just for art majors. Here, you’ll have opportunities to integrate creative work and performance into courses throughout the curriculum.
