Hamilton College has a site license for ESRI software and data products.  This means that any member of the Hamilton community can access a wide range of applications and data layers from anywhere on campus (and, in many cases, from off-campus as well).  The following list is not exhaustive, but these are the main attractions.  Call us if you want to use an ESRI product and don't see it in this list; we may have access included.  Any member of the Hamilton community can take any of the online training courses and webinars as part of our ArcGIS subscription.  You would need to be added to this online resource, but after authorization, most courses are free.  This is a great way to learn about what you can do with GIS and with ArcGIS!

Platforms

ArcGIS Online is a cloud-based entry-level GIS that is fully interoperable with ArcGIS Desktop and Pro.  This application is available to all Hamilton community members.  Delivered via the browser, this software can be used on either Mac or Windows computers, anywhere in the world.  Hamilton students and employees can login here.

ArcGIS Desktop (+ all extensions) is the legacy professional GIS platform.  We have version 10.6.1 with all extensions, available on every public Windows computer.  This software can also be installed on office and student computers by request.

ArcGIS Pro (+ all extensions) is the next-generation GIS platform.  This version is very graphics-intensive and is only available in SCCT 3019 and on office computers with adequate resources.  All extensions are available and managed via our ArcGIS Online organization.

Solutions is a collection of focused maps and apps that help address challenges in your organization. They leverage your authoritative data and are designed to improve operations, provide new insight, and enhance services in government, utility, defense, public safety, telecommunications, and commercial business.

Scene Viewer can combine various 2D and 3D datasets, as well as view and share existing 3D scenes. Explore 3D features, such as terrain and elevation, from all angles, and add pop-up windows and infographics to display important information.

Notebooks provide a Jupyter Notebook experience optimized for spatial analysis. Combine industry-leading spatial analysis algorithms with open-source Python libraries to build precise spatial data science models. Convey results with beautiful, interactive maps and apps for data storytelling that drives insight and action.

Apps (accessible via ArcGIS Online)

Story Maps create multimedia-rich, interactive websites that can include images, video, text, audio and other types of files, including your own maps or the integrated Express Maps.  Story Maps can either build on maps created in ArcGIS Online or to create standalone sites.  Story Maps are available to the entire Hamilton community either from ArcGIS Online or here.

Business Analyst helps you make smarter decisions for market planning, site selection, and customer segmentation by combining demographic, business, lifestyle, spending, and census data with map-based analytics. Through desktop, web, and mobile apps, Business Analyst demographic mapping software helps you identify under-performing markets, pinpoint the right growth sites, find where your target customers live, and share the analysis across your organization as accurate infographic reports and dynamic presentations.

GeoPlanner is a geodesign and scenario planning application that keeps the pulse on the environmental impact for new or existing designs. With spatial context and visual storytelling, GeoPlanner helps communicate design intent while balancing environmental constraints.

Urban enables planners and design professionals to collaborate across teams with a web-based 3D application that supports scenario planning and impact assessment. ArcGIS Urban enables the digital transformation of city and regional planning to encourage collaboration with community stakeholders and help all groups work toward a more sustainable future.

Survey123 is a complete, form-centric solution for creating, sharing and analyzing surveys. Use it to create smart forms with skip logic, defaults, and support for multiple languages. Collect data via web or mobile devices, even when disconnected from the Internet. Analyze results quickly, and upload data securely for further analysis.

Field Maps is an all-in-one app that uses data-driven maps to help mobile workers perform data collection and editing, find assets and information, and report their real-time locations.  This application can be used alongside Survey123.

Insights is an analysis software that fuses location analytics with open data science and business intelligence workflows. Answer questions you didn’t know to ask, analyze data completely, and unlock new insights.

Redistricting is a web-based software that enables governments, advocates, and citizens to complete and share regulation-compliant redistricting plans.  Use built-in tools to check compactness and allowable population deviation. Share pre-defined reports that meet legislative requirements.  Engage citizen participation via online maps. Use out-of-the-box redistricting and spatial analysis functions, sophisticated geocoding, and plan management tools.

App Builders (accessible from the Map Viewer)

Experience Builder empowers you to quickly transform your data into compelling web apps without writing a single line of code. Build mapcentric or nonmapcentric apps and display them on a fixed or scrolling screen, on single or multiple pages. Perform a drag-and-drop operation to choose the tools you need from a rich set of widgets, design your own templates, and interact with your 2D and 3D content—all within one app.

Dashboards enable users to convey information by presenting location-based analytics using intuitive and interactive data visualizations on a single screen.  The JHU Covid-19 Dashboard was perhaps the most well-known example of this app.

Instant Apps make it easy for your audience to engage with your maps and data by sharing them with ArcGIS Instant Apps. Within five minutes, you can select a template, choose configuration options, and share a web app that addresses your audience's needs.

Data and Layers

ESRI Data is a global location data portfolio, vetted for accuracy by an expert team of data scientists, demographers, and geographers. Supplement your existing database with quality data variables from authoritative data sources. Ready-to-use datasets include demographics, behavioral and business data, environmental live feeds, places and movement data, high-quality imagery, and frequently updated basemaps.

ESRI Demographics are available both globally and locally, with access to over 15,000 ready-to-use demographic data variables from more than 130 countries around the globe. Dive deep into demographic trend analysis on topics such as world population growth, birth and mortality rates, and populous countries.

Living Atlas of the World is the foremost collection of geographic information from around the globe. It includes maps, apps, and data layers to support your work.  The data layers include national and international data and can be easily added to ArcGIS Online maps.

Additional data may be found by searching the "ArcGIS Online" option from the Add New Layers tool in the Map Viewer.  This connects to ArcGIS Open Data, which allows any user to post data layers which are publicly accessible.  Please note that reliability is not guaranteed.
