Professor of Africana Studies Nigel Westmaas co-authored the article “Committed to the Cause of Humanity’: Guyana and the Morality of Cuban Medical Internationalism.” The article was published in the July 2026 issue of The Roundtable: The Commonwealth Journal of International Affairs and Policy Studies. It was written with Jeremy Jacob Peretz, Charlene Wilkinson, and Waynewright Orderson.
The study examines Guyana's longstanding relationship with Cuba's medical cooperation program and explores the ethical and political debates surrounding Cuban medical internationalism. It situates Guyana's experience within broader discussions of international solidarity, global health, and foreign policy, highlighting the country's role in debates over the promises and challenges of transnational medical cooperation.
