With construction progressing steadily toward a January 2027 opening, Hamilton College has announced the name of its newest building: The Nye Center for Innovation and Technology. The name of the 41,000-square-foot facility celebrates its ties to a branch of the Burke and Harding families which have provided unwavering support to the College for six generations spanning more than a century.
The Nye Innovation Center is designed to foster creativity and collaboration across various disciplines and will serve as a hub for teaching, experimentation, collaboration, and research. The state-of-the-art facility will offer students, faculty, alumni, and partners resources to engage in deep research and experiential learning through technology-equipped classrooms, high-speed computing, fabrication laboratories, and collaboration, presentation, and display spaces. The building will also provide a new home for the Computer Science Department.

“We are thrilled to share that this incredible new facility will be named The Nye Center for Innovation and Technology,” President Steven Tepper said. “We want to thank Dan and Meagan for their visionary leadership, along with all of our other generous donors who, together, have brought to life a space that will help drive the future of Hamilton.”

Every organization needs people who can communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively across all platforms. These organizations also need innovative, adaptable leaders who know how to leverage technology to accomplish goals. That’s what this building is about.”

The Nye Innovation Center will connect to the Burke Library via an outdoor plaza on the second floor and a corridor between the buildings on the first floor. This connection is especially appropriate as the Burke Library is named in honor of Daniel Burke, Class of 1893, who was not only chair of the Board of Trustees and an honorary degree recipient, but also great-grandfather of John Nye ’87 and Dan Nye ’88. With nearly 30 graduates, the Burke, Harding, and Nye families have served the College with five members of the College’s Board of Trustees, two board Chairs, three honorary degree recipients and one Bell Ringer recipient. In addition, these families have endowed numerous scholarships to ensure Hamilton is accessible to all.

“It is an honor to have played a role in the creation of this transformational building at a college we all love,” Dan Nye ’88 said. “I can’t wait to see our extraordinary faculty and students unleash their creativity with the resources they will have available. And for students, they will have the means to develop the technical skills they need in our rapidly changing world. Every organization needs people who can communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively across all platforms. These organizations also need innovative, adaptable leaders who know how to leverage technology to accomplish goals. That’s what this building is about.”
