Praised by The Wall Street Journal, the Natural History Magazine and the Library Journal, among others, Continental Divide – a History of American Mountaineering, has been released by W.W. Norton in paperback. A National Outdoor Book Award honorable mention recipient, the book, written by Professor of History Maurice Isserman, has been excerpted in publications including The Alpinist and The Oregonian.
The Publius Virgilius Rogers Professor of American History, Isserman is also the co-author of the award-winning Fallen Giants: A History of Himalayan Mountaineering from the Age of Empire to the Age of Extremes (2008). The History and Literature of Himalayan Mountaineering - from the 19th Century to the Present, a new course taught by him for the first time this spring, will include an optional two-week trek in Nepal to the base camp of Annapurna over spring break.
Isserman’s forthcoming book focuses on the history of the 10th Mountain Division in the Second World War.
