After an almost four-hour, early-morning bus ride, members of the Shenandoah-Kirkland Initiative (SKI) were glad to arrive at the Akwesasne International Powwow earlier this month. This was their second time attending the annual powwow, which takes place at the A`nowara`ko:wa Arena on the Akwesasne (Mohawk) reservation in Ontario.

The Hamilton College Marathon Canoe Racing Team did it again! Starting on Friday, Sept. 7, the team of 20 competed in the annual Adirondack Canoe Classic, hosted by Mac’s Canoe Livery. The paddlers woke up before the sun rose for two weeks prior to the race to train on Delta Lake in Rome, NY. Before they knew it, they were lined up in Old Forge on Friday morning poised to start the journey.

Nicole Taylor ’19 has been helping Hamilton students vote since her first year on campus. Taylor explained, “I would be talking to my new friends about politics and I’d say, ‘Well, you know, the only way you can really voice your opinion at this stage in your life is to vote. Are you registered to vote?’ and they’d be seniors and they’d say, ‘No.’” This led her to teach some of her peers about the registration process and ultimately helped foster her passion for campus voter engagement.

The Hamilton Outing Club is proud to welcome 15 to new leaders to the community after last weekend’s leader training session. The participants sacrificed their weekend to learn what it takes to be a leader for the Outing Club. They spent time in and around the Glen House learning the necessary and important skills for leading a successful trip.

Following a D.C. program tradition, the fall 2018 Hamilton D.C. program students visited Williams & Jensen, a private law firm focused on lobbying, to speak with George Baker Jr. ’74 and Frank Vlossak ’89. Baker and Vlossak were exceedingly gracious hosts, providing an insider look at the somewhat mysterious and often misunderstood world of lobbying.
