  • Eugene Domack, The J.W. Johnson Family Professor of Geosciences at Hamilton, has been named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Election as an AAAS Fellow is an honor bestowed upon AAAS members by their peers.

  • Members of the men’s lacrosse team spent the week after Thanksgiving volunteering in the Hamilton Against Hunger program. All of Hamilton’s athletic teams take turns collecting leftover food from the McEwen dining hall to donate to the Utica Rescue Mission.

  • Several Hamilton faculty members contributed to a new book, Pathways to Excellence in Teaching, edited by Ernest H. Williams, the Christian A. Johnson Professor of Biology, and published by The Couper Press.

  • Alexandra Nasto’s ’13 summer internship at the New Britain (Conn.) Museum of American Art (NBMAA) led to one of her works being exhibited at the museum’s Juried Members Show in October.  Nasto, a curatorial intern at the NBMAA from May to August 2012, submitted an acrylic painting she had completed as part of Hamilton Professor Bill Salzillo’s design class last spring. The painting was one of the works selected by juror Robert Burns, director of the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, Conn.

  • A team of Hamilton economics students took second place in the annual Fed Challenge in New York City on Nov. 14. This was Hamilton’s  best finish to date and  the second year in a row that the Hamilton team advanced to the final round. The Challenge is a team competition for undergraduate college students inspired by the working of the Federal Open Market Committee. Hamilton advanced to the finals after a first-round victory on Nov. 9.

  • Lauren Howe ’13 and Eunice Choi ’14 travelled to the 2012 International Slow Food Congress in Turin, Italy, Oct. 25-29.

  • Columbia University Professor Eric Foner, preeminent historian of the Civil War era, will discuss his latest book, The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery, on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m., in the Bradford Auditorium, K.J.  Foner is the DeWitt Clinton Professor of History at Columbia University and specializes in the Civil War and Reconstruction, slavery and 19th century America.  The lecture is free and open to the public.

  • Members of the Hamilton community were interested in far more than the results of the presidential election on Tuesday.  Two Hamilton alumni and a Kirkland alumna were also running for elected office.

  • Novelist and alumnus Peter Cameron ’82, H’12 will read from a new story and from his novel Coral Glynn on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 8 p.m., in the Fillius Events Barn. Cameron is a critically acclaimed fiction author who has six published novels. His reading is free and open to the public.

  • The Newman Council hosted its annual Trust Treat on Halloween for children from Thea Bowman House in Utica. Trust Treat is a Halloween celebration that brings youth from the Utica area, as well as the children of Hamilton employees, to the campus for a safe and fun evening of trick-or treating.  Students in residence halls, academic departments and campus organizations dress in costume, decorate their spaces and hand out candy to the visitors.
