Students poured into the glittering halls of the Annex and Events Barn on Saturday, March 7th at 10pm, drawn by the pulse of blasting music and the shimmer of stunning, hand crafted decorations that transformed the space into something electric. The night held a celebration brought to life by the collective energy and vision of student organizers across all five DMC organizations including La Vanguardia, Black and Latine Student Union (BSLU), Gender and Sexuality Union (GSU), Center for Intersectional Feminism (CIF), and Asian Student Union (ASU), who worked in harmony with Sadove Programming to create an unforgettable night of urban vibrancy.
At the heart of the evening was a journey through three iconic cultural epicenters: New Orleans, Los Angeles, and New York City. Each city, rich with its own rhythm and identity, was chosen for its powerful legacy as centers of cultural and historical diversity in the United States. The sounds of each place filled the room through a carefully curated playlist pulsing through speakers, inviting attendees to not only listen, but to move, feel, and celebrate. At the center of the Annex, a table overflowed with flavor and tradition, hosting dumplings, tacos, bananas foster, and the unmistakable classic New York pretzel. Students gathered around, plates in hand, as conversations flowed. It was a space not only to eat, but to connect over the tastes of cultures.
The Annex and Events Barn radiated that night, filled with vibrant lights, dynamic sound, rich flavors, and the full spectrum of color. The space became a tribute to every student, story, and background. DMCity wasn’t just about music or food, but something deeper. It was a living, breathing expression of multiculturalism in the U.S, the blending, reshaping, and celebrating of cultures that define the campus and the nation around us. In a community that draws students from across the country and internationally, the festival was a bold affirmation of identity, a celebration of difference, and a recognition of the beauty that emerges when those differences come together.
