Washington, D.C., Program

Live, work, and learn in the nation's capital with other Hamilton students who are eager to expand their understanding of others and the world. Established in 1969, Hamilton's semester-long program is open to all majors. It combines an internship, academic experience, and experiential learning opportunities that encompass a wide range of perspectives and experiences on government with the capital as a classroom. 

The Hamilton Program in Washington, DC runs in the fall and spring semesters. Twelve students live in provided housing and work in a variety of internships four days each week. They receive four credits from two substantive classes, an  independent research project led by a Hamilton Government Department professor who is the resident director of the Program, and an internship. Internships have included all three branches of government, think tanks, NGOs, non-profits, lobbying and consulting firms.
