The Anne B. and Jules L. Rubinson Scholarship
The Anne B. and Jules L. Rubinson Scholarship was established in 1984 by Cecily G. and Richard M. Rubinson, M.D. '57 in memory of Dr. Rubinson's parents.
Jules Rubinson was grateful to Hamilton for providing his son, Richard, with the educational experiences he (Jules) did not have as a student during the Great Depression. Jules became a devoted friend of the College, having constructed the scoreboard on Steuben Field with Richard when the latter was a student on the Hill. Upon Jules’ death in 1964, the Rubinson family established this scholarship to extend educational opportunities for students. Jules wife, Anne, died in 2011.
A retired physician and cardiothoracic surgeon, Richard was born in Paterson, New Jersey. While at Hamilton, he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and a writer for The Spectator and the yearbook. He graduated in 1957 with majors in biology and chemistry. Richard subsequently enrolled at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, earning an M.D. in 1961. While studying in Rochester, Richard met Cecily “Cessy” Goldman, and the couple married in 1960. After completing his surgical residency, he served in the U.S. Public Health Service before working at the University of Miami and ultimately entering private practice, where he remained for 28 years before retiring. Richard is an active member of his community, having served as president of Spectrum Programs, a substance abuse clinic, and Informed Families of Dade County, an organization that supports drug prevention programs for youth.
