Welcome to Campus Safety!

The mission of the Hamilton College Department of Campus Safety is to provide professional, high-quality and effective protective services to support the educational mission of Hamilton College.

Have a question for Campus Safety?

An email address, campo@hamilton.edu, has been created to allow members of the campus community another way to communicate with the Department of Campus Safety. The email address may be used to voice a concern, report a potentially hazardous situation, ask a question, or to make a request of our department.

Need Assistance?

Campus Safety is here to help.

Lockouts

Campus Safety assists students who lock themselves out of their residence room.

Except for the residence halls, which are locked at all times, most campus facilities are normally open when classes are in session or by special request coordinated with the Director of Campus Safety.

Access to Facilities

When class is not in session and when the campus is officially closed, all buildings are secured and only faculty, staff and students with proper authorization are allowed access. The public may attend cultural and recreational events on campus; however, access is limited to the facility in which the event is being held.

If you find any property, please take it to the Campus Safety office!

If you have lost any property, contact Campus Safety to determine if it has been turned in!

The Campus Safety office holds onto meaningful items for a reasonable amount of time. Campus Safety is not responsible or liable for the loss, damage, or safekeeping of personal belongings.

Upon request, the Campus Safety Department assists motorists on campus with disabled vehicles. A portable battery pack, can be loaned (in exchange for a valid form of identification) to members of the campus community to jump start their vehicle.

Personal Safety Escorts

Campus Safety provides escorts to and from any on-campus location for students and community members to ensure safe travel. Escorts are conducted by vehicle or foot patrol. These are single-use services for specific safety concerns, not a regular transportation option or substitute for walking.

To request an escort, call Campus Safety or use the blue-light emergency phones MAP BELOW

Medical Transportation

The department provides non-emergency transportation to and from the Health Center, classes and students' on campus residences. Approval for this service is granted through the Health Center. To request this service please contact the Health Center: healthcenter@hamilton.edu

If you are ticketed, it is your obligation to take care of it. All tickets will result in a fine associated with the violation, and subsequent tickets will result in them being sent to student conduct.

Within 14 days of receiving a ticket, if you believe it should be appealed, submit the appeals form below!

Vehicle owners should be aware of the following before they file an appeal:

Appeals for handicap area citations are not approved.

The use of hazard lights (or “flashers”) does not excuse illegal parking.

Vehicles that park illegally for longer than 24 hours can receive multiple citations.

Ignorance of published parking regulations does not excuse violations.

The Parking Appeals Board consists of one member from each of the upper three classes and one non-voting staff member appointed annually by the Director of Campus Safety.

All Parking Appeals Board decisions are final.

Parking fines are not billed until all appeal procedures have been exhausted and citations that are successfully appealed do not count towards the excessive ticket totals outlined in Rule XVII.

Appeals of parking tickets issued on the Hamilton College campus must be filed within fourteen (14) days of the date the ticket was issued. If more than fourteen days have passed, you cannot use this form.

Please visit the Campus Safety Office or Student Transportation Office if you have questions about this policy.

The Transportation Office schedules non-emergency transport with 24 hours’ notice, processed weekdays, 8 a.m.– 4 p.m.
