Clinton Middle School Incident

Dear Hamilton Community,
As many of you know, three students at Clinton Middle School were arrested earlier this week for planning a violent attack on the school. This event has shaken our small community, especially the many faculty and staff whose children attend the school.
I understand that Clinton Middle School will be closed on Friday. For our employees who are directly impacted by this incident–we’re thinking of you. Please know that if it would be helpful for those missing school tomorrow, Burke Library and Root Glen are just two of the places on our campus that are always open to families in our community.
For all employees, resources such as our Employee Assistance Program are available to offer support.
Learning together is sacred. Schools and colleges are places where we can fortify ourselves against a world that can be dangerous and unjust. When violence or the prospect of violence is present, our capacity to learn together and imagine a better future is diminished.
I remain in contact with Superintendent Christopher Clancy to see how Hamilton College may offer support. Community is always and must always be the answer. As Lynda Barry, our Tolles speaker reminded us last week, love is always and must always be the thing we save from tragedy.
With care,
Steven Tepper
