Margie Thickstun, the Jane D. and Ellis E. Bradford ’45 Distinguished Writing Chair, was recently invited to present the spring semester Joseph S. Schick Lecture in Language, Literature, and Lexicography at Indiana State University (ISU) in Terre Haute, Ind. Her talk was titled “Anne Bradstreet in Context: a woman writer in the early modern world.”
According to the ISU Department of English webpage, the Joseph S. Schick Lectures are made possible by a “generous bequest from Joseph S. Schick, Professor Emeritus of English” at ISU. The description notes that “according to the conditions of Professor Schick’s will, “Eminent scholars . . . will be invited to present lectures on the literature, language and lexicography of the United States . . . and Great Britain,” and that lecture topics would be “limited to the period before 1900.” Since its inception in 1989, the series has hosted more than 200 presentations.
