Heidi Ravven, director and professor of Jewish Studies, recently presented the plenary address at a conference on “Wisdom from the Middle Ages: Philosophical Contributions from the Abrahamic Traditions.” The event was hosted by the University of New Brunswick in Canada.

Her presentation, “How Maiomonides Tried to Save Judaism and Civilization Through (What We Call Today) a Civil Religion of Science in the Public Interest,” was based on a chapter in her upcoming book, Democracy, Science, and Ceremony: Reviving American Civil Religion.

According to the conference webpage, the event highlighted “the important philosophical contributions made by Jewish, Christian, and Islamic thinkers in the Middle Ages” and encouraged “dialogue and collaboration among researchers who work in different Abrahamic traditions, as well as to prompt new comparative studies among these traditions.”
