Betsy Levy Paluck, a MacArthur Foundation “Genius” fellow and professor of psychology & public affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, will present the James S. Plant Distinguished Scientist Lecture on Monday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m., in the Chapel. The lecture, “Reducing Prejudice and Bullying in Our World Today: The Role of Social Norms,” is free and open to the public.
In 2017, Paluck won a MacArthur Fellowship. According to the MacArthur Foundation’s website, she is a “psychologist whose studies of social norms and networks are providing new insights into strategies for reducing patterns of discrimination, bullying, and ethnic conflict.”
Paluck received her B.S. and Ph.D. in psychology from Yale University, and taught at Harvard University’s Harvard Academy for International Affairs, before becoming a professor at Princeton. She also spent a year conducting a field experiment trying to promote ethnic tolerance in post-conflict Rwanda.
