Shoshana Keller

William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of History Shoshana Keller presented her new work, an interactive website called "Mapping the Peoples of Kazakhstan," at the annual conference of the Central Eurasian Studies Society, held at Syracuse University, Sept. 13 to 15.

The website Keller created combines Soviet census data with Geographic Information Systems to create a series of maps that show the location and movement of the many nationalities of Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan experienced famine and the forced migration of millions of people to create a unique population structure within the Soviet Union. The website is free to use.
