Hamilton Environmental Action Group (HEAG) is inviting the Hamilton community to join together to celebrate the Earth and make a difference during Green Week, which kicks off on Monday, April 18, and will continue through next weekend. Green Week is HEAG’s biggest project of the semester, and will feature at least one new event every day.
Monday, April 18:
Monday’s theme is “Pledge to go veg,” and HEAG has set up tables outside of Commons and McEwen dining halls to educate students on the environmental impact of the meat industry and encourage reductions in meat consumption. The Green Café at McEwen will feature an all vegetarian lunch courtesy of Bon Appetit.
Tuesday, April 19:
Environmental activist and nonprofit worker Matt Martinelli will speak at 7 p.m. in the Kirner-Johnson Red Pit about easy ways that students can reduce their energy consumption on campus.
Wednesday, April 20:
HEAG will be staffing a farmer’s market with fresh local produce on Martin’s Way between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m The Hamilton community is invited to check out the food selection and listen to music from R.J. Kosineski ’12 and Dan Knishkowy ’13.
Thursday, April 21:
HEAG will host a screening of the documentary film For the Love of Water. Following the film will be a discussion of water conservation led by Associate Professor of Geosciences Todd Rayne. HEAG will be giving away a limited number of HEAG reusable water bottles.
Friday, April 22:
In celebration of Earth Day and in collaboration with the Hamilton Arboretum Association, HEAG is organizing a campus-wide cleanup. Interested students should meet on the Martin’s Way Bridge at 2:30 p.m.. The first 25 to arrive will receive a free green spring cleaning t-shirt.
Saturday, April 23:
Along with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Athletic Department, HEAG will be selling refreshments at the track and turf field in the afternoon. All proceeds will go to purchasing carbon emissions to help offset the impact of team travel.
Sunday, April 24:
HEAG will cap off Green Week with “Tree Planting for Easter” with Spring Farm Cares.
