For the 22nd consecutive year, Hamilton has been recognized among the colleges and universities with the most students selected for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. For 2025-26, 43 Hamilton students and alumni applied for the U.S. Student Program, and five received the grant. The recipients are pursuing Fulbright English teaching assistantships in Indonesia, Vietnam, and Spain.

Additionally, Associate Professor of Government Kira Jumet was awarded a Fulbright U.S. Scholar grant to Morocco. Fulbright U.S. scholars are faculty, researchers, administrators, and established professionals who teach or conduct research in affiliation with institutes abroad. With Jumet’s award, Hamilton has totaled 31 Fulbright U.S. Scholars since 1953-54.

The Fulbright Program, established in 1946, is the U.S. government’s premier international academic exchange program. Each year, it provides opportunities for exceptional Americans and participants from 160 countries and locations to study, teach, and conduct research abroad, advancing knowledge, science, and industry through international exchange and collaboration. Fulbright alumni achieve distinction and are recognized as leaders in government, business, science, technology, research, education, and the arts.

“It is incredibly rewarding to work with - and learn from - the intrepid Hamilton students and recent graduates who apply for the Fulbright US Student Program,” said Lisa Grimes, Hamilton’s director of student fellowships. “Though the process is lengthy and may seem daunting, every year our candidates pour themselves into their applications. I hope that they will inspire many more of our students to pursue a Fulbright award.”

Fulbright is a program of the U.S. Department of State. Participating governments and partner institutions, corporations, and foundations around the world also provide direct and indirect support to the program.

Fulbright alumni work to make a positive impact on their communities, sectors, and the world and have included 44 heads of state or government, 63 Nobel Laureates, 93 Pulitzer Prize winners, 83 MacArthur Fellows, and countless leaders in all sectors and industries across the United States and around the world.
