Charlotte Carstens ’16 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Germany. Carstens, a German studies and world politics major, studied in Tübingen, Germany, during her junior year.

While studying in Germany, Carstens served as a high school English conversation class leader in Tübingen. She has also been a German teaching assistant at Hamilton and an English tutor for adult refugees in Utica, N.Y.The Fulbright ETA Program places U.S. students as English teaching assistants in schools or universities overseas, thus improving foreign students’ English language abilities and knowledge of the United States while increasing their own language skills and knowledge of the host country. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright program is the largest U.S. international exchange program.
At Hamilton her scholastic honors include the Duell German Prize Scholarship and the Wyld Prize in German and Dean’s List recognition.
Carstens is a member of the Hamilton College choir and participated in its annual choir musicals; a member of the Hill singers; an assistant for career resources at Hamilton’s Career Center; co-coordinator of the German Language Table; a member and vice president of Gamma Xi sorority; and she was a delegate to Model United Nations.
After her return to the U.S., Carstens plans to work for an international education organization and then pursue a master’s degree in that field.
