Every fall, Hamilton’s Outing Club (HOC) sends groups of students to the Adirondack Mountains where they attempt to summit each of the 46 high peaks in one weekend. This year, there were 25 trips and five overnight backpacking trips. Student participants included 40 HOC leaders, 20 shadow leaders (as part of HOC leader training), and 51 hikers for a grand total of 111. This year, Hamilton students summited 39 of the 46 peaks.

Major national and regional news organizations regularly interview Hamilton faculty, staff, and students for their expertise and perspectives on current events, and to feature programs and activities on campus. Highlights of September’s coverage have been compiled by the Media Relations Office.

When we reached the end of our hike, my fellow geological conference attendees and I turned our attention not toward the dense forests far below us, but toward the basalt rocks right below our feet. It was what we had hiked up to see, after all.

Mona Campbell ’85 spent much of her childhood “clomping through the forest for fun” on her family’s farm. Now, she shares that important part of her with thousands of others while working to preserve it for generations to come.

In its first meeting of the 2022-23 academic year, the Hamilton Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa elected 10 members of the Class of 2023.
