Hamilton’s new theatre and studio arts building is on track to be finished in July, 2014. When complete the $46.8 million complex will encompass 81,000 square feet.

Stage/film/TV actress Blanche Baker P’15 visited Hamilton to give a two-day workshop on “Acting for Film,” on March 9 and 10.

Two events featuring Cultural Odyssey’s Rhodessa Jones and Idris Ackamoor will take place on Monday, Feb. 25, and Wednesday, Feb 27. The events are free and open to the public and no tickets are required.

The new theatre and studio arts building under construction is taking on a distinctive shape with its steel foundation in place. When complete the $46.8 million complex will encompass 81,000 square feet.

Hamilton’s latest major building project is well under way with the construction of the theatre and studio arts building progressing on schedule. Bill Huggins, associate director of Physical Plant, says the project is on track to be finished in July, 2014. When complete the $46.8 million complex will encompass 81,000 square feet.

The Hamilton College Theatre Department announces its Fall production, The Dispute by Marivaux, translated by Gideon Lester. Performances will run Thursday, Nov. 1 – Saturday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m., and Wednesday, Nov. 7 – Saturday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m., and at 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays, Nov. 3 and Nov. 10. All performances take place in Minor Theater.

Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer presented “Acting Exercises for Day One” on Aug. 3 at the Association of Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) Conference in Washington, D.C.

On the eve of the completion of the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art, groundbreaking for the College’s new theatre and studio arts center was celebrated on Friday, July 20. The theatre and studio arts center is part of an arts complex that includes the Wellin Museum of Art, the Molly Root House and a revitalized pond and landscaping.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Andrew Holland first had the idea to create a theatrical piece with a focus on architecture after reading about a Berlin play which took inspiration from the Bauhaus architecture of the planned community at which it was performed. Holland brainstormed for locations to conduct a similar play at Hamilton College with Professor of Theatre Carole Bellini-Sharp, and the two decided the perfect location would be the Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School in the Cornhill section of Utica.

Hamilton College’s Bicentennial Initiatives campaign exceeded its $117 million goal 16 months ahead of its scheduled conclusion on June 30, 2013. The funds raised in the first two years of this brief three-year effort now surpass $119 million.
