Students on Hamilton College’s DC Program recently went to Rosslyn, Va., to meet with a group of Hamilton alums who work at Deloitte, a multinational professional services company.

Dressed in their business professional best, students on Hamilton’s DC program took a trip to the courthouse to meet with the Honorable John D. Bates, the Senior United States District Judge of the District Court for D.C.

One of the benefits of Hamilton's Washington, D.C. program is the ability to connect with Hamilton College’s vast alumni network in the capital. Taking advantage of this, the D.C. program students recently met with Matthew Zeller ’04. Zeller is the founder and CEO of No One Left Behind.

Students on the Washington D.C. program recently had the opportunity to meet with Johnnie Carson, who served as ambassador to several African nations and was the assistant secretary of state for African affairs under President Obama. He was also a visiting professor at Hamilton College where he taught courses on African politics.

Following a D.C. program tradition, the fall 2018 Hamilton D.C. program students visited Williams & Jensen, a private law firm focused on lobbying, to speak with George Baker Jr. ’74 and Frank Vlossak ’89. Baker and Vlossak were exceedingly gracious hosts, providing an insider look at the somewhat mysterious and often misunderstood world of lobbying.

The students on Hamilton College’s D.C. Program, along with their program advisor Professor Steve Orvis, kicked off their D.C. adventure with a boat tour along the Potomac River and a tour of Mount Vernon, George Washington’s famous home.

Interest in the study of Middle Eastern politics, love for learning different languages, and a passion for volunteer work led Morgan Walsh ’18 to volunteer for the Peace Corps in Morocco.

Hamilton College hosted its fourth annual Three Minute Thesis Competition, a contest open to all seniors in which they are challenged to present their senior project and its significance in three minutes or less. Eighteen seniors participated, representing a number of different majors.

Associate Professor of Government Sharon Werning Rivera convened a conference on April 20 – 21 titled “Russian Elite Attitudes toward Conflict and the West,” one of two international meetings conducted on campus this past weekend.

On the brink of possible U.S. airstrikes in Syria, and a summit meeting with North Korea, the discussion between Susan Rice, former U.S. ambassador to the UN and national security advisor to President Obama, and Condoleezza Rice, former Secretary of State and national security advisor to President George W. Bush was particularly relevant on April 11.
