Sixty-five Hamilton College students are spending their Spring Break touring Italy with the Hamilton College Choir, led by Professor G. Roberts Kolb, the Christian A. Johnson Excellence in Teaching Professor of Music. On the tour, 65 members of the four-part choir will be making stops to perform in Venice, Bologna, Florence, Perugia, and Rome. The tour runs from March 12 to March 24.

Four biochemistry majors will present their senior research projects today (Wednesday, March 7) at 4 p.m. in Chemistry 112. The campus community is invited to attend.

Four Hamilton College faculty members were approved for tenure by the college's Board of Trustees during their recent meeting at the college. They are: Shoshana Keller, History; Catherine Gunther Kodat, English; Herman Lehman, Biology; and Joseph Mwantuali, French.

Hamilton College has implemented a new Information Line telephone number to call for details about the upcoming lecture by former President Jimmy Carter. Carter will give a free public lecture at the College on Monday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. Call 859-INFO(4636).

The largest fundraiser for Hamilton's Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program will take place today, March 1. The Not-So-Silent Auction will be held in the Annex, with silent auction items on display for bidding beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting thoroughout the day. A dinner (reservations required) begins at 6 p.m. and an oral auction begins at 7 p.m., with performances by Special K, Bobby Peru, the Hamiltones, and Tumbling After.

Dorothy Simpson, the mother of Associate Dean of Faculty and Professor of Classics Barbara Gold, and a class of 1928 Middlebury College graduate, had the opportunity to meet Middlebury's president Dr. John McCardell, Jr. this week. McCardell, visiting Hamilton as head of the Middle States Reaccreditation team, presented Mrs. Simpson with Middlebury's Gamaliel Painters Cane, a symbol of institutional strength and character.

Assistant Professor of English Naomi Guttman will present a reading from the poetry-cycle, 'Galactopoiesis' in the next Kirkland Project Brown Bag series talk on Monday, March 5 at noon in Schambach 108.

Heather VanGuilder, a junior majoring in neuroscience and philosophy, represented Hamilton College at the annual Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) "Posters on the Hill" session, held last week in Washington D.C. She presented the findings of summer research in the biochemistry/neurochemistry field carried out in collaboration with chemistry professor Tim Elgren.

Assistant professor of psychology Julie Dunsmore was interviewed for a Boston Globe column about "easing the disruption of business trips." The article appeared on Feb. 22.

Hamilton men's basketball coach Tom Murphy was featured in a Syracuse Post-Standard article (2/24/01) about his 27 consecutive winning seasons.
