Playback Theatre: A Theatre of True Stories

Playback Theatre is an original form of interactive theatre where a team of performers—facilitator, actors, and musician—listen to audience members’ personal stories and then create theatre and music on the spot. First developed in 1975 in the Mid Hudson Valley, Playback is now practiced in 70 countries to build connection, dialogue, and change.

Playback cofounder Jo Salas, with Lauren Sky, a long-time member of Hudson River Playback Theatre, will speak about Playback’s purpose and scope, and reflect on some of the theory behind this grassroots story theatre. They’ll also report on some of the community projects that they and other Playback companies have carried out.

All are welcome! Attendees will be invited to experience elements of Playback Theatre for themselves, reflecting each other’s stories in action.
