Serena Witzke

In her work Witzke examines how texts engage with and critique social structures and hierarchies to reveal information about persons and social relations that are otherwise invisible, with a particular focus on the intersections of identities that shape our lived realities. She works to incorporate intersectional feminist pedagogy, epistemic injustice theory, the decolonization of “the classics,” and equitable classroom relationships into her teaching and scholarship. Witzke also serves as editor of Diotíma, an online resource for information on women, gender, sex, sexualities, race, ethnicity, class, status, masculinity, enslavement, and disability in the ancient Mediterranean world.
