Philip Pearle

Pearle has been a member of the Hamilton faculty since 1969, and is now professor emeritus. His field of expertise is foundations of quantum theory, with particular emphasis on changing quantum theory so that it describes “the collapse of the wavefunction,” as a physical process,  i.e., predicts a single real outcome for an experiment instead of giving a sum of outcomes whose interpretation is problematical. His published works can be found in the Physical Review, Physical Review Letters, Foundations of Physics, etc., as well as in a number of edited volumes. He has conducted physics research at such schools as the Universities of South Carolina, Geneva, Durham, Cambridge and Oxford, International Center For Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Pearle, who holds a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has spoken about his research at conferences held in the United States, Canada, England, Denmark, Italy, Germany, Hungary, and France.
