Ned Walker earned his bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College and a master’s from Boston University before embarking on a career as a diplomat. Prior to assuming the presidency of the Middle East Institute in 2001, he served in the Bush Administration as assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs, a position he also held under President Clinton, helping to develop U.S. policy during the Middle East peace process. A former U.S. ambassador to Israel, the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United Arab Emirates and deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, he returned to Hamilton as the Linowitz Visiting Professor of Middle East Studies in 2003 and 2005, and joined the faculty in 2006.
