Event Description

Demystifying Disability: Foundations and Actionable Steps Toward Creating Accessible and Inclusive Campuses.

Presenter: Emily J. Helft, Assistant Director of Professional Development at Landmark College

Description: Disabled folks make up the largest minority group in the world, yet many people have limited (or even inaccurate!) knowledge about members of this community. This session will aim to cover disability basics in order to help foster a more knowledgeable and inclusive campus at Hamilton. Attendees will leave the training as knowledgeable and empowered individuals ready to make simple, positive shifts toward a more inclusive world.

The modern 2025 classroom is more diverse than ever before, and educators are more invested than ever in understanding how to support students with highly differing preferences and needs. This presentation will serve as an introduction to the three pillars of Universal Design for Learning 3.0 that are the hallmarks of the new “ERA” of teaching. Content will cover a combination of theory, experiential activities, and examples. The workshop will end with strategy suggestions and attendees will enjoy dedicated time for application that is personally meaningful to their circumstances.

Participants will need to bring a pen/pencil and have access to a mobile device and/or laptop

Join in person or via https://hamilton.zoom.us/j/99396378082

Lunch will be provided by Parkhurst.
