Event Description

Title of Workshop: Demystifying Disability: Foundations and Actionable Steps Toward Creating Accessible and Inclusive Campuses

Presenter: Emily J. Helft, Ed.S., Assistant Director for Professional Development

Description: Disabled folks make up the largest minority group in the world, yet many people have limited (or even inaccurate!) knowledge about members of this community. These identical sessions (one in the early afternoon and one in the evening) will aim to cover disability basics in order to help foster a more knowledgeable and inclusive campus at Hamilton. Content will cover a mix of disability foundations including its definition, prevalence, and various manifestations in the post- secondary setting. Following these topics, the session will shift into actionable steps anyone can take in order to help create accessible and welcoming environments for disabled people. Attendees will leave the training as knowledgeable and empowered individuals ready to make simple, positive shifts toward a more inclusive world.

This will be bring your own lunch but snacks and dessert will be provided by Parkhurst.
